GMO Japan Market Intelligence(JMI) is a business entity that collects and uses a large quantity of consumer information (including everyday personal information) while conducting market research on behalf of its clients.
While JMI’s services are based on consumer participation, we consider it our clear responsibility to use and manage the personal information in a secure manner.

JMI’s "Personal Information Protection Policy" is therefore provided to clarify this responsibility and to show how our commitment to fulfilling this policy, both within and outside of our company, is manifested via specific actions with respect to privacy protection.

GMO Japan Market Intelligence(JMI) Personal Information Protection Policy

GMO Japan Market Intelligence(JMI) contributes to society by surveying and collecting (acquiring) data on consumer awareness and knowledge of products and services via market research, statistic data processing and data from a business industry or organization.
Our services are based on consumer participation. However, as a business entity that collects (acquires) and uses a large quantity of consumer information (including everyday personal information), we consider it our clear responsibility to use and manage the personal information in a secure manner.
To clarify this responsibility, we hereby stipulate our "Personal Information Protection Policy" and state our commitment to fulfilling this policy, both within and outside of our company:
  1. The collection (acquisition), use, and provision of personal information:
    • The collection (acquisition) of personal information is performed with a clearly stipulated objective, and occurs in an appropriate and fair manner.
    • The use of personal information is performed within the scope of this objective, as agreed by the person whose information is collected.
    • The provision of personal information to third parties does not occur as a general rule; when it is provided to third parties, it is done so with the agreement of the person whose information is collected.
    • Personal information is managed accurately and is kept up-to-date within the scope necessary for the completion of our objectives.
  2. The security management of personal information:
    • We implement organizational, human, physical and technical security management measures to prevent the improper access, loss, destruction, falsification and leakage of personal information.
  3. The observance of laws and other standards:
    • In handling personal information, we observe national laws and guidelines, as well as the "Marketing Research Code" created by the Japan Marketing Research Association, Ltd.
  4. The continuous improvement of the compliance program:
    • In order to fulfill our Personal Information Protection Policy, we created and operate a compliance program that includes official regulations. In order to improve the program’s effectiveness, we periodically provide education to all employees. We audit the operation, continuously perform re-evaluations and make improvements to the compliance program.
With a sufficient understanding of this Personal Information Protection Policy and of how to handle personal information, all employees of our company promise to strive and pay the utmost attention to protecting any personal information in their daily work.

  1. Objectives for personal information
    1. Our company mainly carries out market research, and public and social polls, with the objective of surveying and collecting (acquiring) data on consumer awareness and knowledge of products and services. These tasks are carried out through market research, statistic data processing and data from a business industry or organization. Collected (acquired) personal information is, as a rule, gathered as statistical data and not used in such a way that individuals can be identified.
    2. Occasionally, we collect (acquire) information (names, addresses, etc) of people cooperating in market research (targets of surveys). In such cases, the information is taken from: the Basic Resident Register, telephone directories, and residential maps and marketing publications (such as name registries, information provided by market research business clients, etc). We use this information in a professional and legal manner.
    3. Occasionally, we gather a wide range of persons to cooperate in and monitor our company’s surveys. However, before we accept an application, we inform each person of the objectives for the collected (acquired) personal information.
    4. Occasionally, we perform market research and collect (acquire) names and addresses, without specifying the market research objectives to the cooperating persons (targets of surveys). However, in such cases, we inform the persons of the objectives verbally, in writing, etc.
  2. Stored personal data (Law Regarding Protection of Personal Information Clause 2 Paragraph 5 (Definition))
    Stored personal data is defined in Article 2 Paragraph 5 of the Law Regarding Protection of Personal Information as follows:
    Personal data is that for which traders handling personal information have the authority of disclosure, editing of content, addition or deletion, stoppage of use,
    erasure and stoppage of provision to a third party, except that which government ordinance specifies will cause injury to public good or other profits, if the existence or non-existence of such is made clear, or it is erased within a period not exceeding one year, as determined by government ordinance (government ordinance: six months).
    Items of stored personal data that this company handles are as follows:

      Creation of statistical data useful for the improvement of products and services.
  3. Requests for "disclosure", "editing", etc of stored personal data
    We respond to requests from a person from whom data is collected, or representatives thereof, for disclosure, changes (editing of content, addition or deletion), stoppage of use ("Stoppage of use or deletion", "Stoppage of provision to third parties"), etc.

      Name, address, answers to questions relevant to the survey objectives.

      Disclosure requests should be mailed, with the completed prescribed request form and the necessary documents enclosed, to the following address:

    3. Documents (forms) to be included with the disclosure requests, etc
      When making disclosure requests, etc, please printout Request Form (a), complete all prescribed items and enclose Document (b) for personal identification.

        One copy of a driver's license, passport, or other official document.
    4. Disclosure requests, etc made by representatives
      When the legally designated representative makes a disclosure request for a minor or adult ward of the court from whom information was collected, or when the legally designated representative has power of attorney over a person from whom information was collected, in addition to the above-mentioned forms, please enclose either Document (a) or (b) below:
      1. For legally designated representatives:
        • One copy of our company's Prescribed Declaration Form (付属書1)
        • One copy of a document confirming representative capacity (for official copies of family register or persons exercising parental authority, a copy of an insurance card filled out by the dependent is sufficient)
        • One copy of a document confirming status as the legally designated representative of a minor or adult ward of the court (copy of the legally designated representative's driver's license, passport or other official document).
      2. For representatives with power of attorney:
    5. Fees for disclosure requests, etc
      We do not collect fees for these services.
    6. Responsetodisclosurerequests,etc
      We respond to requests to the requestor's address as it appears on the Request Form.
    7. Objectives of personal information collected (acquired) from disclosure requests, etc
      Personal information collected (acquired) from disclosure requests, etc is handled only for the purposes of responding to the requests. Submitted documents are saved for two years after completion of a response, and are then destroyed.
    8. Reasonsfornon-disclosure Should we decide not to disclose information, we will inform you of the reasons. We will not disclose information in situations corresponding to the following reasons a縲徃
      1. In the event that we cannot confirm the person's identity, such as when the address on the Request Form, personal identification documents and company records do not match.
      2. When we cannot confirm the right of representation for requests made by a representative.
      3. When prescribed request documents are inadequately completed.
      4. When the target of the request does not correspond with the retained personal data.
      5. When there is concern that the life, person, property and other rights or interests of the person from whom information was collected, or of third parties, might be in danger.
      6. When there is concern that the request might cause a significant hindrance to the proper execution of our company's tasks.
      7. When the request would violate other laws.
  4. Provision of personal information to third parties
    Our company professionally manages personal information and does not provide it to third parties without the prior consent of the person from whom information was collected. However, we make exceptions in the following circumstances:
    1. Based on the law.
    2. When it is necessary to protect life, person or property and it is difficult to secure the consent of the person from whom information was collected.
    3. When it is necessary for advancing public health, especially the furthering of child-rearing, and when it is difficult to secure the consent of the person from whom information was collected.
    4. When there is cooperation with local public bodies, or those commissioned by such bodies to perform tasks, and obtaining the consent of the person from whom information was collected would be a hindrance to the performance of the corresponding tasks.
